I anticipated that she would scream and gather all the villagers to stone me. But she didn't.<br /> She did something very hilarious. She gave me a hot slap...and then...<br /> Then she hugged me. She was pregnant for me.<br /> I was astonished.<br /> "How about Chom?" I asked her.<br /> "Ever since Chom discovered I am pregnant," she narrated,<br /> "he started treating me and your baby in my womb in total disdain sometimes..."<br /> She was still talking when Chom came out of the house with a cutlass and chased after me.<br /> I couldn't run much because I was tired and weak. So I got to a point and drank the black liquid I got from the hunter.<br /> I went numb immediately. I couldn't talk, couldn't move, couldn't open my eyes.<br /> But I could hear all that was been said around me.<br /> Chom noticed I was lying still. He thought I was dead and he took to his heels. He ran out of the village for fear of being accused that he killed me.<br /> "Let's bury the stranger immediately," someone said.<br /> I began to panic and I said my last prayer before I be put six feet under the ground.<br /> Just then, the king summoned all the male youths & elders.<br /> The men planning to bury me all left, leaving my still body with Bleszy.<br /> Bleszy wept bitterly and stayed with me for good 3 hours.<br /> And then I woke up. Ofcourse she was scared at first until I explained to her, the black liquid.<br /> Bleszy agreed to spend the rest of her life with me.<br /> That day,<br /> I told her the truth, why I left my father's house.<br /> She agreed to follow me, to reconcile with my father; with my sister; with the woman I killed & buried her duck.<br /> Bleszy gave birth in my father's house; she gave birth to a boy and we named him after her grand father.<br /> Then suddenly, I felt a hot slap on my bare back. When I woke up, it was my mum. So Wisdom you have started bedwetting? I dragged him to shade and I cleaned the blood stain off his face.<br /> To my utter amazement, there was no cut on his face.<br /> "How on earth did the blood get there?" I asked myself.<br /> I began to panic.<br /> To add petrol to fire, the hunter abruptly opened his eyes. I was just about to take to my heels when he yelled that I should stop. It took me so much courage to do so.<br /> The hunter showed me a small bottle with black liquid inside. According to him, if u drank the liquid, you would seem as if u are dead for good three hours.<br /> He told me he usually does that when ever he came across a wild beast in the forest. He showed me another small bottle. It contained the blood of a goat. It was the blood he poured all over his face. I could see my own downfall.<br /> I ran a while but then I heard footsteps ahead of me.<br /> I had only one option; I climbed on a tree.<br /> And that night, for the very first time,<br /> I prayed to God silently in my mind, to spare my life; not to let them spot me on the tree.<br /> Imagine me, Wiszey, who never believed in prayers.<br /> All of a sudden, the young men whom were chasing me stood just a few yards from the tree I climbed. And then I heard a familiar voice.<br /> It was Chom's.<br /> "I'm grateful to u all for starving yourselves of sleep because of that stranger. U can all go back home now & retire to bed. Leave the fight for me. He had molested my wife to-be and I promise to bring back his head!" he swore.<br /> Following Chom's words, the young men all returned home.<br /> In the moonlight, I watched Chom moved a few steps and then..<br /> It was if he was pricked by thorns. And he held his left foot and sat down under the very tree I was on.<br /> I could just jump on his head and that would be the end of his life.<br /> But I didn't do that. I discovered I didn't really have the mind to kill a fellow human; especially as God answered my prayer by putting Chom's life in my hands.<br /> Right from that night,<br /> I started believing that prayer works indeed.<br /> An idea crossed my mind;<br /> I plucked a fruit from the tree and dropped it straight on Chom's head.<br /> He got so scared and ran for his dear life.<br /> I guess he thought a ghost did that. We were quite good friends.<br /> And days passed.<br /> And weeks...and months.<br /> And food started getting finished from the house.<br /> Bleszy showed me the large plots of land her parents left behind for her.<br /> We worked on it.<br /> I put in so much effort and during the harvest, we had so much to eat and to sale.<br /> And gradually, I grew into a man<br /> and Bleszy, into a woman. An elegant young woman;<br /> One that any man would want to spend the rest of his life with.<br /> One day,<br /> while we were working on the farm, she said something that spoilt my mind.<br /> She talked about her plan to elope with Chom in a few months to come.<br /> I didn't utter a word. She talked for a while and when she noticed the countenance on my face had changed, she kept quite.<br /> In my silence,<br /> I swore in my heart that she would never end up with Chom.<br /> Except if my name is not Wiszey.<br /> I had a plan.<br /> That very night,<br /> at about 01:00am, when everyone were deeply asleep,<br /> I knocked gently on Bleszy's door. Bleszy was standing with a calabash, collecting the fish.<br /> It started to rain. The old man couldn't withstand the rain and went to find shade under a palm tree.<br /> He left us in the rain.<br /> After a while, we heard screams. Bleszy's grandfather was dying.<br /> We rushed to meet him under the palm tree.<br /> Thank God we ran early enough to hear his last words before he passed away.<br /> "Please take care of Bleszy!"<br /> were his last words to me.<br /> And then he closed his eyes, forever.<br /> I was shocked.<br /> I wished, I have the power of resurrection. But I kept my cool and went inside.<br /> A thought crossed my mind:<br /> "Why didn't she bring Chom to the house?"<br /> I woke her grand father and told him that Bleszy was hanging out with some strange guy under the mango tree.<br /> He was really mad and he went there.<br /> I didn't know what exactly he did but I just saw Bleszy cried back into the house.<br /> I felt happy but later sad,<br /> because Bleszy kept herself at arm's length from me through out that night.<br /> The following day, Bleszy's lover, Chom, came to give me warnings to leave the house otherwise I would be sorry.<br /> Though he was taller than I am and more of age as well,<br /> I wasn't scared a bit.<br /> I simply laughed at his stupidity. She poured the rice on the floor for her duck to feed.<br /> I was so furious.<br /> That day, when she was out, I threw a very big stone at her duck. Even when my dad varnished into thin air,<br /> she wept for days, weeks, months, years.<br /> The nurse told my mum to go get some of my clothes from home.<br /> Just a few minutes after she left,<br /> Bleszy's dad walked in.<br /> "I have warned you many a time to avoid driving at a high speed!" he reprimanded his wife.<br /> "It's all my fault sir!" I cut in.<br /> "What's your name young man?" he asked me.<br /> "My name is Wiszey; Wiszey Henry," I responded.<br /> "Wow...we bare the same sur name!" Bleszy yelled.<br /> "Where is your dad?" he asked again.<br /> "My dad has varnished," I said.<br /> "Dead?" he added.<br /> "I don't know..." I replied.<br /> "How about your mum; Where's she?" Bleszy's dad continued.<br /> "Sorry sir, the patient really needs much rest!" the doctor cut in.<br /> If not for the doctor's intervention, I'm sure I would have answered a thousand more "WAEC" questions from Bleszy's father.<br /> "I will like to see your mum when I returned from work." Hahaahaha..... It was as if someone was boiling hot water in my body.<br /> I woke up from a dream. I dreamt that BLESZY was there at the hospital, spoon-feeding me.<br /> I had to run away from her in that dream. There was only one way I could do that; I opened my eyes.<br /> I looked around to be sure there was none like her in that ward.<br /> A woman was sitting beside me.<br /> I guess she was the woman that knocked me down. I felt quite relieved. I closed my eyes & relaxed my mind.<br /> After a while, I heard a voice; a female voice; it was familiar. BLESZY again.<br /> She was holding a foodflask.<br /> "Here is the food mum!" I heard her say.<br /> It was her mum that knocked me down while she was coming to pick her from the evening class. The very woman sitting beside me. What a coincidence!!....<br /> Her mum excused herself to go get some fruits.<br /> Bleszy sat closer to me.<br /> Guess what? She was spoon-feeding me. Exactly what she did in my dream.<br /> I couldn't run away this time. I couldn't, even if I tried to,<br /> so I just kept my calm.<br /> For the first time, I watched her closely.<br /> She gave me a warm smile.<br /> I noticed her beauty: her dimples, her sparkling eyes, her coily hair.<br /> If you were ever asked to define beauty,<br /> you can simply say,<br /> "Beauty can be defined as Bleszy" and you would be given your full marks.<br /> How else can I make you imagine her beauty?<br /> In short, singer Rihanna would be considered ugly when Bleszy is around.<br /> "Lucky me!" It was Bleszy. Bleszy Henry. The girl I rescued from the hands of those two.<br /> "I must not let her see me!" I told myself.<br /> But our lesson teacher, mrs. Gift, exposed me.<br /> She asked me a question. Now one of the rules in that lesson is that u would be walked out of the class-room if u refused standing up when a question is asked u.<br /> I was reluctant at first. I didn't want this Bleszy of a girl to notice my presence in that lesson. But either way, she was going to see me walking out of the class-room if I don't stand up to answer. I had no choice.<br /> Mrs. Gift was our teacher of Biology.<br /> One "silly" thing about her is that she asks too many questions at a time, trying to confuse one.<br /> "What's growth?" she asked.<br /> "Growth is an IRREVERSIBLE increase in size and complexity of an organisim..." I answered then pursed.<br /> "Go on; I didn't ask u to define," she said.<br /> "Growth is brought about by the synthesis of the protoplasm," I continued,<br /> "for growth to occur, the rate of synthesis or anabolism must exceed the rate of catabolism."<br /> "Give one difference between growth in plants and animals?" she added.<br /> "Growth in plants is indefinite and apical while growth in animals is definite and uniform in all of the body." I responded.<br /> Now the whole class were starring at me and that's one thing I dislike.<br /> Bleszy had seen me as well.<br /> Mrs.  Gift didn't expect me to have answered the question the way I did.<br /> ...and she told the class to give me an applause.<br /> I felt shy.<br /> She taught for a while and then dismissed everyone when it was time.<br /> I noticed Bleszy was searching for me.<br /> I quickly bent down and ran out zig-zagly between the students so she won't see me.<br /> But she did.<br /> She was even running after me. That was how I escaped from her. I hid myself from her in an uncompleted building. I watched her for almost an hour until she got tired of waiting & left. I needed the money so badly.<br /> ... But I didn't like to be paid for being kind.<br /> I really badly needed it.<br /> Actually, I don't go to school.<br /> But I do attend evening lessons. I yelled from a far.<br /> They stopped abruptly and I walked up to them.<br /> They laughed and were coming for me.<br /> "Why would u want to drink medicine for another person's headache?" one of them said.<br /> B4 I knew it, he bounced on me. He pressed my neck tight.<br /> "I am going to end ur miserable life!" he told me.<br /> I had never been that angry scared in my life.<br /> He may have ended my life if I didn't do what I did.<br /> I put my fingers deep into his eye balls and he let go of me.<br /> I got a big wood and ran after the other guy.
